Outplacement

Scenario

  • Our client is an international intergovernmental agency, involved in strategic planning, objectives and results for its parent organisation.
  • Following a number of changes in working practice, they needed an outplacement provision to support departing employees.
  • The provision had to be aligned with their culture and values, and cost-efficient while retaining maximum flexibility.

Actions

  • We provided outplacement support for all non-diplomatic head office staff, in the form of individual and group workshops, depending on the seniority and volume of individuals potentially made redundant.
  • Initially we negotiated a suitable level of support, then tracked and escalated this appropriately as the project progressed.
  • The programme focused firmly on practical solutions. We targeted each participant’s mindset, enabling them to be ‘in the right place’ to find work and to ‘move on’ emotionally.
  • They were encouraged to focus on their achievements, with the programme taking a competency approach.  This helped them to portray themselves as confident and successful.

Outcome

  • We ensured that every participant built a realistic picture of their capabilities and understood precisely how to progress to the next step.
  • Our approach was sympathetic, tactful but ultimately positive.  By improving feelings of self-worth, we noticeably increased motivation levels.
  • Participants found themselves more likely to gain interviews and to achieve their next position.
