Reducing headcount while limiting redundancies.

Glasgow City Council and Ways HR Consulting are presenting a best practice HR workshop looking at the issue of reducing headcount whilst limiting redundancies.

The workshop will:

  • Present a case study of how Sunderland City Council is using redeployment and career management in order to avoid compulsory redundancies.
  • Provide examples of how new approaches to career management can encourage both voluntary turnover and support workforce flexibility.
  • Look at different approaches to workforce planning.
  • Facilitate a discussion about the HR implications of different approaches to headcount reductions.

Sunderland Council has made a major commitment to making very large headcount savings without any redundancies. Using new ways of looking at assessment and flexible deployment, the approach raises interesting issues regarding change and the adaptability of flexible deployment.
